Technovation 2016 Final Submission

Technovation challenges girls all over the world to build a mobile app that will address a community problem. Since 2010, 5,000 girls from 28 countries have submitted to Technovation, thanks to dedicated volunteers around the world. Mombasa Girls In STEM(Sciences Technology Engineering and Mathematics) is an alumnae engagement Innovative fund project by Techwomen Kenya implemented by Pwani Teknowgalz.The main goal of this project is to inspire young girls in Mombasa into venturing in sciences courses . SCHOOL VISISTS FOR THE MOMBASA GIRLS IN STEM BEGINS!

With the approval of the Mombasa County Education office to conduct school visits and train high school girls in Mombasa, we proceeded to invite schools in Mombasa to participate in the project. Our initial target was get 10 schools to participate in the program, however a total of 11 schools agreed to take part in the project. These schools include both private and public schools and are spread out across the county. ROBOTICS AND ENGINEERING

We conducted Robotics and Engineering training sessions for our ToTs on the 12th and 13th of February 2016. The training was graciously led by Joash Amemba and Faith from Open Build Hacker Space. Open Build’s philosophy of HACK.TEST.SHARE guided the Robotics assembly. ToTs were introduced to SparkFun Inventor’s Kit (SIK) and SparkFun RedBot basic kits which are a great way to get started with programming and hardware interaction with the Arduino programming language. Django Girls Mombasa Workshop

Django Girls is a Non-Profit Organization and a community that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources and support.The workshop aims at training ladies on Python,Html,css and Django Framework. Pwani Teknowgalz team Aisha Abulkadir and Ruth Kaveke took the initiative to bring the first ever Django girls workshop to Mombasa. Mombasa Girls in STEM Solve IT Project Launch

The winning Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund project by TechWomen 2014 <strong>‘Mombasa Girls in STEM Solve IT’ was launched on Saturday 12 December, on Kenya’s Independence Day at the Swahili Cultural Center in Mombasa.
