The Confidence to Lead: A Journey of Opportunity, Innovation, and Impact
A young Woman Passionate About Solving Real-World Problems
Technology has the power to transform lives, but for Linda, it has always been about solving real-world challenges. Linda’s journey into technology began with a desire to create solutions that improve lives. After studying Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, she continued to build her expertise through advanced certifications in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Today, she serves as a Data Governance Engineer at RevealIQ Consultancy while also leading MbogaTek, an urban hydroponics startup focused on sustainable agriculture. Her passion lies at the intersection of technology, innovation, agriculture, and social impact using data to solve problems while creating opportunities for communities. Yet her journey into the technology industry was far from straightforward.
Searching for a Path into Tech
Like many aspiring professionals transitioning into technology, Linda knew where she wanted to go but wasn’t sure how to get there. She struggled with limited access to mentorship, uncertainty about which technical skills employers were looking for, and the confidence needed to step into an increasingly competitive industry. Although she was eager to build a career in technology, breaking into the ecosystem felt overwhelming. Rather than allowing uncertainty to hold her back, she searched for an opportunity that would provide practical experience, mentorship, and a supportive learning community. That opportunity came through Pwani Teknowgalz’s CodeHack for Beginners program. Building Skills and Believing in Herself CodeHack became more than a technical training program. It became the environment where Linda transformed both professionally and personally.Through hands-on learning, she developed practical skills in:
- Python programming
- Data analytics
- Web development fundamentals
- UI/UX design
- Team collaboration and leadership
The technical skills were invaluable, but the greatest transformation happened within. CodeHack challenged Linda to step outside her comfort zone, embrace leadership, and believe that she belonged in the technology space. That confidence inspired her to participate in competitive innovation spaces, including the Google Hackathon and ITExperience Hackathon opportunities she once believed were beyond her reach.
“CodeHack equipped me with both the technical competence and the confidence to showcase my skills. I learned to be bold, to share my journey, and to believe in what I could achieve.” — Linda\
When Confidence Created Opportunity
After completing the program, Linda made a deliberate decision to remain active within the technology ecosystem. She attended networking events, connected with fellow innovators, and openly shared the projects she had built and the knowledge she had gained. One conversation would change everything. During one of these events, someone was deeply impressed by Linda’s determination, technical skills, and vision for using technology to solve meaningful problems. What Linda didn’t realize at the time was that this individual was planning to launch a startup. That interaction led to an unexpected opportunity. Today, Linda works as a Data Governance Engineer at RevealIQ Consultancy, proving that technical skills open doors but confidence, visibility, and authentic networking often determine which doors open.
Innovation Beyond Employment
Linda’s impact extends far beyond her professional career. Driven by a desire to solve social challenges, she developed HyaPad, a social enterprise inspired by her undergraduate research that transforms invasive water hyacinth from Lake Victoria into biodegradable sanitary pads. The innovation aims to provide affordable, environmentally friendly menstrual products for marginalized communities while addressing an environmental challenge. She is also leading MbogaTek, an urban hydroponics initiative that promotes sustainable food production through innovative agricultural practices.
A Message to the Next Generation of Women in Tech
Linda encourages every young woman who is unsure about starting her technology journey to take the first step.
“The obstacles may seem overwhelming, but with the right the mentorship, practical skills, and supportive community you need to succeed. Don’t let fear convince you that you don’t belong. Take the leap you might surprise yourself.” — Linda
